iFood launched the "Gerente" (Manager) — a virtual AI agent on WhatsApp that allows partner restaurants to perform financial operations directly through conversation. Developed in partnership with Zoop (iFood's fintech), the Gerente enables Pix payments, bill payments, balance inquiries, and financial management without leaving WhatsApp.
This initiative represents a new frontier for AI agents: moving beyond customer service and sales to become transactional tools that operate on real financial data in real time.

Restaurants partnered with iFood operate in high-pressure environments where every minute counts. Managers and owners often don't have time to access banking apps, navigate complex interfaces, or manage finances during peak business hours.
Additionally, many small restaurant owners have limited experience with digital financial tools, preferring simpler and more direct channels — like WhatsApp, which they already use daily for operational communication.
The iFood Gerente was designed as a specialized financial AI agent operating within WhatsApp. Its capabilities include:
- Balance and statement inquiries in real time - Pix payments to suppliers and employees - Bill payments with barcode scanning - Financial reports and projections - Alerts for receivables and upcoming due dates
The agent uses Zoop's secure infrastructure for transactions, with multi-factor authentication and encryption. Interaction is fully conversational — the restaurant owner simply writes "pay the meat supplier R$ 500 via Pix" and the agent executes the operation with proper confirmation.
The solution is being gradually rolled out to selected restaurants, with plans for expansion throughout 2026.
The iFood Gerente is in the rollout phase, with key initial results including:
- Significant reduction in time spent on financial management by restaurant owners - Increased adoption of digital financial services among small restaurateurs - Positive satisfaction with the simplicity of the conversational interface - Integration of the financial experience within the same channel already used for operations
The expectation is that, as adoption grows, the Gerente will become the primary financial management channel for most iFood partner restaurants.
