Decide fast. Be able to explain it later.
An efficient pipeline needs to distinguish data, rules and execution. Speed only becomes sustainable when the operation can reconstruct the path taken.
A separation of responsibilities to analyze, test, and review decisions.

More information means more responsibility
The Bank of England points to opportunities for AI in financial decision-making, along with risks related to models and data. This is an international debate, not a measurement of how Brazilian engines perform.
In product practice, one question remains even without AI: if the policy changed, how do you find out which operations used the previous version? Without that link, it is harder to investigate discrepancies and explain why two cases took different paths.
Fetching data is not evaluating the policy
The pipeline organizes sources, availability and timelines. The engine evaluates the published rule using the inputs received. A missing field, a failed lookup and a valid value of zero are different situations; turning them all into the same number destroys relevant information.
The input contract must preserve enough quality and provenance for the policy to decide how to act. Depending on the design, the case may wait for a source, follow an alternative path, or require review. That choice must be explicit, not an accidental side effect of the code.
A policy change calls for comparison
Before publishing a new rule, the team can compare it with the previous version using an appropriate sample of cases. The goal is to spot changes in behavior, assess exceptions and investigate unexpected results. This does not replace risk and business validation.
Recording the executed version helps link the policy to the outcome. When a statistical model or AI is involved, recording only the table isn't enough: model versions and relevant transformations are also part of the explanation. A rule's determinism and a policy's validity are different properties.
Human review needs substance
A useful exception queue explains why a case was routed, what data is missing, which policy was applied and which actions are allowed. Sending every incomplete case to the desk without prioritization may preserve control while destroying efficiency.
That's why the design should address queue capacity and wait time. A policy that automates more decisions but multiplies hard-to-resolve pending cases may simply shift the cost. The assessment combines outcome, quality and operational effort.
One pending item. Two possible paths.
In this example, incomplete documentation routes the case to human review. The queue receives the reason and context.
Same input, different versions
Concept lab: compare a policy that routes incomplete documentation to review with one that requests the missing items first. The goal isn't to suggest approval criteria; it's to make visible how a rule change alters the operations team's work.
Time per step
Separate waiting on a source, rule execution and human review.
Reconstruction
Percentage of cases with traceable input, source, version and outcome.
Exceptions
Volume, reason, queue age and rework rate.
Three questions
before building.
- Does a source failure show up as a failure or as a rejection?
- Can you locate the policy used by a specific transaction?
- Does the desk receive an explained pending item or just an unanswered proposal?
From reading
to composition.
Decision Platform and Decision Engine play distinct roles at Catalisa: gathering sources and evaluating policies. Composing them with calculation, pricing and formalization must preserve these contracts and each component's stage.
What supports
this view.
The proposals for tests, queues and versioning are editorial analysis. They do not constitute a credit policy recommendation, a promise of approval or a customer outcome.
